Courses available
Climate Fundamentals for Australian Government Operations
Develop an understanding of foundational climate science, policy and APS obligations with respect to the Australian Government’s Net Zero in Government Operations Strategy. Understand climate change’s relevance to strategy, reporting, planning and service delivery, including key frameworks and targets.
Meeting Australian Government Climate Targets
Learn practical skills to reduce emissions across energy, fleet, travel, ICT and procurement. A basic understanding of climate science is helpful, but not essential, as key concepts are introduced throughout the course.

Why Enrol?
These courses are designed for APS staff in operational or strategic roles seeking to contribute to their agency’s emissions reduction and sustainability targets. Participants learn how to communicate the importance of climate action, develop emissions reduction strategies, and apply their knowledge through practical, workplace-relevant projects.
Both courses were piloted across the APS in 2025, with results used to refine and strengthen the final course design.
Pilot participants reported increased confidence in:
- describing fundamental climate science topics
- describing the role of the Australian Government in meeting Australia’s climate commitments
- identifying climate risks and emissions reduction actions for a specific Commonwealth entity
- proposing a practical solution for reducing emissions for a specific Commonwealth entity
- understanding Australia's participation in international climate policies.
Overall, pilot participants reported meaningful improvements in their understanding of climate science and Australia’s participation in international climate policies.
