Under the Net Zero in Government Operations (NZGO) Strategy, non-corporate Commonwealth entities (NCEs) must develop Emissions Reduction Plans (ERPs). Corporate Commonwealth entities and Commonwealth companies that opt-in to the APS Net Zero 2030 Target are required to have an ERP.
These ERPs define the key actions each entity will take to support the APS Net Zero 2030 Target. Each ERP must be signed off by the entity’s accountable authority.
Key targets
The following key targets for ERPs are set out in the NZGO Strategy:
- by 30 June 2024, entities must develop a long-term emissions reduction plan
- entities must provide an annual progress report towards 2030 targets.
Annual updates to plans
The NZGO Strategy requires an annual update to the ERP, and a summary must be included in the entity’s annual reports. This, with annual emissions reporting, will reflect an entity’s individual progress towards reducing emissions. The NZGO Strategy requires all NCEs to develop and publicly publish an ERP.
