Australian Government Organisations Register - Guide to Fields

The table below shows the data fields that are contained in the Australian Government Organisations Register (the Register).

Portfolio The body's portfolio
Title The body's name
Classification
  • Principal bodies - bodies connected with government policies, purposes or services which are prescribed under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 and the related rules.
  • Secondary bodies - committees, councils, boards, statutory office holders, consultative bodies and working groups linked to the Australian Government.
  • Other bodies - bodies that the Government does not fully own but has significant influence over.
Type of Body There are 12 types of bodies – please see the factsheet “Types of Bodies”
GFS Sector Classification

Whether the body for Government Finance Statistics (GFS) reporting purposes is part of the:

  • General Government Sector (GGS),
  • a Public Non-Financial Corporation (PNFC),
  • a Public Financial Corporation (PFC), or
  • unclassified.
Materiality Material bodies are identified based on their impact on the whole-of-government financial statements. Materiality is determined by aggregating the total income, expenses, assets and liabilities of all bodies. Bodies whose total falls within the top 99 per cent of the total general government sector are classified as ‘material’ bodies’. All Departments of State are classified as material. 
Description  Brief description of the body’s function
Established By/Under The legislation the body was created by/under or through Administrative Arrangement Orders (AAOs), or through some other decision of Government. 
Creation Date The date the body was created or established. 
GFS Function/Sector Reported 

The GFS function(s) the body’s expenditure is classified under.

PS Act Body? Whether the body is subject to the Public Service Act 1999.
Average Staffing Level (ASL) As sourced from data published in Budget Paper No. 4, or the body’s Portfolio Budget Statements (PBS)
Maximum Number of Board / Committee Members The maximum number of board or committee members for the body
Paid Members? Whether members of the board or committee are paid a sitting fee. 
Board / Committee Appointed By  Who appoints the board.
Annual Report Prepared and Tabled? Whether there is an annual report, and it is tabled in Parliament. 
Auditor  The auditor for the body
ABN  The Australian Business Number (ABN) for the body
Parent Body The parent body (typically a principal body) that the secondary body reports to. 
20YY-YY Budget , Total Appropriations ($m)

The total appropriations received by the body, as reported in Budget Paper No. 4.

Note: Some bodies receive receipts as a result of charging and cost recovery arrangements. The appropriation figure does not include these receipts. Information on receipts is available in Budget Paper No. 4. 

Receipts have been excluded because they are not appropriated to the entity by an annual Appropriation Act or another Act. 

20YY-YY Budget, Total Departmental Expenses ($m)  For principal bodies only, sourced from the Government's Central Budget Management System. 
Head Office Address The address of the head office of the body. 
Website Address Website address for the body.
Strategic / Corporate / Organisational Plan Website address for the strategic, corporate or organisational plan for the body.
Annual Reports Website address for the annual report of the body. 
Budget Documentation Website address for the budget documentation of the body.
