Finance participates in the Stepping Into program which is coordinated by the Australian Network on Disability. Stepping Into is an internship program where university students with disability are connected with workplaces to gain experience through a paid internship.

Indigenous Australian Government Development Program (IAGDP)

Finance participates in IAGDP, which is a 15 month entry-level employment and development program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are interested in working in the APS.

Indigenous Apprenticeship Program (IAP)

Finance participates in IAP, which is a 12 month entry-level program that offers participants a permanent, full-time job and a nationally recognised certificate or diploma qualification.

Graduate Recruitment Program

The Finance Graduate Program accepts applicants from all diverse backgrounds. Graduates get exposure to a wide variety of work and access to key decision makers, with the government’s agenda at the heart of everything you do. We apply RecruitAbility to our graduate recruitment process, as well as offering affirmative measures for people with disability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Career Starter Program

The Career Starter Program is an entry-level recruitment and development program for people who have completed a Year 12 certificate or equivalent within the last 24 months. We encourage applications from people from all diverse backgrounds. We also apply RecruitAbility to this recruitment process.

Affirmative measures

The APS Commissioner's Directions 2016 allows APS agencies to identify certain processes or vacancies as open only to either Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people or people with disability. The key purpose of affirmative measures is to ensure that there are equal employment opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds and to address inequitable employment outcomes. Affirmative measures policies and processes also help to create a more diverse workplace.

Indigenous Liaison Officer

The Indigenous Liaison Officer provides employment support, career coaching, and pastoral care to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees.

RecruitAbility

The Department of Finance is committed to supporting the employment and career development of people with disability. Our participation in APS RecruitAbility means we will progress an applicant with disability to a further stage in the recruitment process, where they opt into RecruitAbility and meet the minimum requirements for the vacancy.

Reasonable Adjustments

We are committed to making reasonable adjustments for any person who requests it, to provide a positive, barrier-free recruitment process and supportive workplace.
