Exploring AI use cases across government

Sharing GovAI at the AI Government Showcase

More than 20 vendors have indicated their interest in working with GovAI and the wider APS since the launch of the platform, highlighting a growing interest in practical, collaborative approaches to using AI in the public sector.

GovAI, which was launched to coincide with the first AI Government Showcase in Canberra last month, allows for experimentation, collaboration and training, all in a trusted environment.

The GovAI team hosted two interactive booths, giving participants a hands-on opportunity to explore how GovAI is helping build a more productive, informed, and future-ready public service through practical AI adoption.

This sold-out event, co-hosted by the Digital Transformation Agency, brought together Australian AI businesses and government under the theme “Adoption in Action,” aimed at inspiring and accelerating AI uptake across the Australian Public Service.

Attendees had the opportunity to:

  • Explore the GovAI service
  • Test demo applications built using generative AI tools hosted on GovAI
  • Explore real AI use cases from across government, showcasing practical applications and outcomes
  • Meet the GovAI team, ask questions, and share ideas for how AI can support public service delivery.

Event Highlights

Finance’s Assistant Secretary Government Services Branch Marcel Gabriel presented on how GovAI will enable and uplift AI use across government.

Finance also featured in two partner-led sessions showcasing real-world applications of solutions built through GovAI.

Using synthetic data within GovAI’s secure hosting environment, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) team demonstrated how safe, scalable experimentation can help improve internal workflows. DVA showcased their work developing an AI-powered chatbot and using CircleT’s redaction tool to support medical record processing, specifically for automated redaction and summarisation.

CircleT shared their FOI redaction tool and how integration through GovAI enables agencies to adopt external tools efficiently and securely.
