Finance staff joined colleagues and guests at a recent Pride @ Finance Network event to explore the practical ways Australian Public Service employees can help create more inclusive workplaces, communities and institutions.
The event featured a panel of leaders from across the APS who shared their experiences of championing inclusion, advocating for change and fostering more diverse and welcoming environments.
They spoke about the importance of speaking up, standing out and driving positive change, particularly in settings where conversations about LGBTQIA+ experiences may not always take place. They also reflected on the personal and professional courage required to challenge assumptions, promote diversity and create opportunities for others to feel seen, heard and valued.

John Neil (PM&C), Sally Harris (Department of Finance) and Andrew Georgiou (Pride in Diversity).
Drawing on their own experiences, the panellists discussed the different ways individuals can contribute to meaningful change, regardless of their role or level within an organisation. They highlighted the impact of allyship, the importance of respectful conversations and the value of creating workplace cultures where everyone feels safe to bring their whole selves to work.

The event reinforced Finance’s ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace and encouraged staff to continue supporting inclusion in their teams and everyday interactions.
