Digital ID and CDR: Proven to reduce the oversharing of renters’ personal information

Making rental applications more secure

The Australian Government has worked with industry to complete a trial to test the use of Digital ID and the Consumer Data Right (CDR) in rental applications, showing that it can work.

Digital ID gives people the option to verify their identity without sharing copies of their ID documents. CDR allows people to prove they can afford the rent.

This demonstrated way of using Digital ID and CDR could save time and money for real estate agents, whilst improving privacy and cybersecurity for renters.

It saves people from needing to hand over and overshare their personal information and makes the application process faster and easier.
