The Australian government is seeking views from the community and industry on whether the Digital ID Act 2024 (the Act) is supporting individuals to have secure, convenient, voluntary and inclusive ways to verify their ID online.
As required under the legislation, the review is being undertaken within the first two years of the Act’s commencement to assess whether it is achieving its objectives and to identify opportunities for improvement.
The Digital ID Act, which commenced in 2024, aims to provide people with a convenient, re-usable way to verify who they are when transacting online, without having to repeatedly provide copies or details of their most sensitive ID documents.
Feedback received through the consultation will help inform the review’s findings and recommendations, including whether changes should be made to the Act or associated Rules.
This consultation is open now until 5pm AEST Friday 14 August 2026.
