Office of the Space Regulator, Australian Space Agency

Regulator function

The Office of the Space Regulator is responsible for regulating and oversight of Australian space and high power rocket activities for safety, security and national interests.

  • Space (Launches and Returns) Act 2018
  • Space (Launches and Returns) (General) Rules 2019
  • Space (Launches and Returns) (High Power Rocket) Rules 2019
  • Space (Launches and Returns) (Insurance) Rules 2019
Regulated community

Persons undertaking, or intending to undertake space activities, including:

  • operating a launch facility in Australia
  • launching a space object or high power rocket from Australia
  • returning a space object to Australia
  • an Australian launching a space object overseas
  • an Australian returning a space object overseas.
