We are pleased to announce that the Regulatory Reform Omnibus Bill 2025 passed the Australian Senate on 27 November 2025, after passing the House of Representatives on 4 November 2025.
The passage of this Bill is another step in the regulatory reform agenda. The Bill contains 60 measures that will improve the operations of 13 government agencies. The Bill is designed to reduce the regulatory burden on Australians and on industry, increase government efficiency and improve productivity.
The Bill will help agencies, including Services Australia, shift towards a 'tell-us-once' approach to how it delivers services – reducing the number of times Australians must provide the same information when accessing certain everyday services.
This means that when Australians update their Centrelink bank details, Medicare gets them as well. This will help people claim their unpaid Medicare benefits, which are estimated to total $270 million owed to almost a million Australians.
The Bill will also double the time patients have to access multiple imaging services ordered by the same referral – from 7 days to 14 days. This will provide easier access to diagnostic imaging services and mean that Australians don’t have to return to their GP to have the same referral completed again.
