In an address to the National Press Club on 18 June 2025, the Treasurer, Dr Jim Chalmers MP, outlined the Government’s ambition to boost Australia’s productivity and signalled that a letter would be written to regulators across government seeking specific, measurable actions to reduce compliance costs without compromising standards. The Department of Finance’s Selling to Government team hit the road for two major industry events in August, SmallBiz Week 2025 in Sydney (7-8 August) and Tech in Gov in Canberra (12-13 August).
The events brought together business owners, industry leaders and innovators, providing valuable opportunities to connect, share insights and promote resources that help suppliers work with the Australian Government.

The Department of Finance has released our Corporate Plan 2025–26, outlining our key priorities and initiatives through to 2028–29.
The Department of Finance has launched its Data Strategy 2025-28.
The Data Strategy sets out our vision to leverage data to influence and enhance our advice to government, strengthen our stewardship role and improve service delivery.
The Data Strategy focuses on four dimensions that will support us to deliver our vision:
Improving Australia’s productivity performance is a key priority for the Government. In an increasingly complex and interconnected environment, regulation and regulators play a critical role in supporting Australia’s productivity through the effective management of risk, enabling innovation, and ensuring protections for Australians.
The Department of Finance acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, water and community.
