Building world-class data and digital capabilities in the APS

In collaboration with the Digital Transformation Agency, we have released the 2025 Implementation Plan for the Data and Digital Government Strategy – the Government’s vision to deliver simple, secure and connected public services through world class data and digital capabilities by 2030.

The 2025 Implementation Plan provides an update on progress against the Strategy, and highlights achievements and next steps across 4 interconnected priorities:

  1. Artificial Intelligence – driving responsible adoption and capability across the APS.
  2. Data – strengthening governance and treating data as a national asset.
  3. Connected Services – delivering simpler, more accessible services built around life events.
  4. Cyber, Trust and Resilience – ensuring security and maintaining public confidence in government systems.

The Implementation Plan shows through multiple real-life use cases what the Government is doing to deliver outcomes, boost productivity and protect Australians as more services are delivered online.

Strengthening data capability to support better decision making

Data helps the Government understand what people need and where they need it. It underpins high-quality digital services and informs evidence-based decisions. That’s why we’re working to help agencies across the public service build their data capabilities.
Key achievements against data targets highlighted in the 2025 Implementation Plan include:

Other key Finance-led initiatives outlined in the 2025 Implementation Plan include the APS AI Plan and Australia’s Digital ID system.
