Department of Finance graduate program

Are you a recent graduate looking to kick-start your career? Start your career with Finance where you can see more, do more, and be more.

Applications are now open for the 2027 Department of Finance Graduate Program – your opportunity to gain valuable experience, develop skills and contribute to meaningful work in a central government agency.

What is the Finance Graduate Program?

A 10-month hands-on program where you will complete two work placements tailored to your skills and capabilities. You will gain exposure to Finance’s high priority work and different areas of government – ensuring a strong foundation for your career.

Our graduates build foundation skills as they participate in project management, undertake analysis and research assignments, and contribute to the development and implementation of policy advice and programs. Graduates help prepare briefs, submissions, reports and ministerial correspondence, and engage in team and departmental activities including meetings, training programs and information sessions.

We support our graduates throughout the program, with:

  • training, face to face workshops, simulations and a major project
  • workplace coaching
  • an Executive mentor for guidance and support
  • a strong professional network of your graduate cohort, graduates from other agencies, peers and mentors
  • a range of culture and diversity networks to build support, guidance and camaraderie between staff outside your graduate network.
