Networks and consultation

Finance has a range of staff-led networks and groups that help raise awareness, share Finance values, and support a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Cultural and diversity networks

Finance has an engaged, active and supportive group of staff-led culture and diversity networks. These networks support staff, raise awareness, and help build understanding across the Department.

You are encouraged to join and participate in these networks, whether you identify as a member or would like to take part as an ally.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff Network

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff Network (ATSISN) supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees at Finance.

The network:

  • supports cultural awareness across Finance
  • works with other diversity networks to improve inclusion and collaboration
  • provides an informal source of information on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander matters
  • promotes key events and significant dates, such as National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week

Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Network

The Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Network recognises the values of different backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences of staff.

The network supports a workplace that:

  • values diversity
  • encourages positive contribution
  • is supportive, inclusive, empowering and respectful

Pride @ Finance Network

The Pride @ Finance Network supports a safe and inclusive workplace for all staff, regardless of sexuality or gender identity.

The network:

  • supports LGBTI+ staff to feel comfortable being themselves at work
  • welcomes all staff without stereotypes, labels, or judgement
  • raises awareness through events and activities
  • contribute to policies and guidance that support inclusion
  • participates in national days of significance

Gender Equity Network

The Gender Equity Network works to improve gender equality at Finance.

The network:

  • challenges unconscious gender bias through education
  • promotes equal opportunity for all genders
  • recognises the gender inequality affects everyone
  • welcomes members of all genders

The network has been inspired by the words of former Sex Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick:

“Gender equality is not a battle of the sexes; it is a battle for equality – a battle that men and women must wage side by side”.

Ability Network

The Ability Network supports people with disability, carers, and people Neurodiversity.

The network:

  • works to remove barriers in the workplace
  • improves disability awareness and confidence
  • promotes accessibility and inclusion
  • supports staff through events and key diversity initiatives
  • welcomes all staff to join and support this work

Emerging Leaders Community of Practice

The Emerging Leaders Community of Practice (EL@F) supports staff who want to develop their leadership capability.

The network:

  • creates opportunities for learning and development
  • facilitates career planning and mentoring
  • builds strong working relationships
  • welcomes all staff to join, regardless of age

Social Club

The Finance Social Club helps bring staff together through social, cultural and sporting activities.

Activities include:

  • department-wide sporting competitions
  • social events such as trivia nights and balls
  • Melbourne Cup and Christmas celebrations

The Social Club plays an important role in building connections and a positive workplace culture.

Department functions

Culture and Diversity Team – diversity@finance

The Finance Culture and Diversity Team supports diversity and inclusion across the Department.

The team:

  • supports diversity networks
  • provides guidance and resources
  • helps staff share ideas and promote inclusion
  • values the contribution of people from diverse backgrounds

Executive Assistant Network

The Executive Assistant (EA) Network supports executive assistants at Finance.

The network:

  • provides a professional and social forum
  • shares information and ideas
  • supports learning about policies, procedures, and technology

Staff Consultative Group

The Staff Consultative Group (SCG) supports consultation between staff and management. Members are elected by Finance employees.

The SCG:

  • discusses matters related to the Finance Enterprise Agreement
  • provides feedback to staff on employment matters
  • advises management on workplace issues
  • does not handle individual employee matters

Professional Community of Accountants

Finance is Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) Australia Recognised Employer at the Knowledge Level. Membership of the Professional Community of Accountants is free.

This accreditation:

  • supports CPA members and associate members
  • provides an alternative way to meet Continuing Professional Development (CPD) or Practical Experience Requirements (PER)
