It’s tax time and the best time for using myID, the Australian Government’s Digital ID.
If you are one of the over 14 million people who have a myID, you can use it to complete a tax return through the Australian Taxation Office’s online services.
Using a Digital ID is the most secure way to prove who you are when interacting with government, services and the private sector.
You can follow these steps to secure your sign in to myGov at tax time:
- Set up your myID to a Strong or Standard identity strength (if you already have a myID, go to step 2).
- Sign in to myGov – select Sign in with Digital ID to use your myID as your sign in method.
- In myGov, go to your ATO online services to complete your tax return.
Your online access strength in your myGov account will be based on the identity strength of your myID (either Strong or Standard).
Finance and Digital ID
The Department of Finance owns and leads the policy direction, law design and management of Australia’s Digital ID System.
We want secure Digital IDs to be available across the Australian economy.
Australia’s Digital ID System is about:
- less data being shared, stored and at risk of being stolen
- making sure there are more accredited providers to choose from
- expanding the existing system to more government and non-government services.
