GovPlace is the Australian Government’s whole‑of‑government platform for secure collaboration at the PROTECTED level. It gives agencies fast access to a trusted environment without the cost and complexity of building their own infrastructure.
As the Australian Government continues to modernise its digital landscape, agencies are seeking simpler and more secure ways to collaborate at the PROTECTED level. GovPlace was launched by the Department of Finance in July 2025 to meet this need.
Built on the GovTEAMS PROTECTED foundation, GovPlace brings together Microsoft 365 tools, including Outlook, Teams and SharePoint, alongside whole-of-government applications such as PDMS and CabNet+ in a single, integrated platform.
Managed by Finance, GovPlace allows agencies to onboard quickly without lengthy procurement processes or major technical changes. It also supports agencies transitioning from legacy environments, including those affected by the decommissioning of the Fortress platform, ensuring continuity of PROTECTED‑level capability.
Key benefits for agencies
GovPlace is designed to deliver practical outcomes:
- Cost-effective – reduces duplication by removing the need for agencies to build and maintain separate PROTECTED environments.
- Security by design – accredited to PROTECTED, providing a trusted and assured government platform.
- Flexible access – supports secure work from anywhere across a range of devices.
- Simple pricing – a single annual per‑user charge, with no additional costs to use the platform.
- Modern and scalable – replaces legacy environments with a flexible platform designed to evolve with government needs.
Impact since launch
GovPlace is supporting agencies across government, with:
- more than 3,000 users across 40 agencies
- additional agencies currently onboarding (as at June 2026)
This uptake reflects growing demand for shared, secure platforms that enable cross‑government collaboration and align with the Australian Government’s Data and Digital Government Strategy.
Agencies are using GovPlace in diverse ways, including:
- Consistent engagement – regular and sustained use across participating agencies
- Flexible device access – secure access from laptops, agency devises and mobile platforms
- Geographic reach - users located across Australia and internationally, supporting collaboration across distributed teams
Looking ahead
GovPlace will continue to expand as a core whole‑of‑government capability, supporting agencies to collaborate securely and efficiently. As adoption grows, it will play an increasingly important role in enabling a more connected, modern and responsive Australian Public Service.
