DISR is the designated Export Authority for nuclear material. The Minister for Resources grants export permissions under the Customs (Prohibited Exports) Regulations 1958, allowing the export of uranium and other nuclear material. This function involves issuing Mineral Export Permissions to allow export of nuclear material from Australia, reporting Australia's uranium and thorium exports and production statistics every quarter and submission of a biannual Report to the Australian Safeguards and Non-proliferation Office.
