Phoenix Australia - Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health (Phoenix Australia) is a not-for-profit organisation, affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry, the University of Melbourne. Our mission is to understand trauma and renew lives of those impacted by trauma. We are recognized nationally and internationally as expert leaders in trauma and adversity related mental health and wellbeing.
Our work spans:
Research - We conduct innovative research to improve the understanding, identification and treatment of the mental health consequences of trauma, including PTSD, moral injury, and comorbidity. We work with many populations including veterans, Defence members, emergency services, and community members.
Evaluation – We undertake independent evaluations to assess the implementation and effectiveness of programs designed to improve outcomes for people affected by trauma.
Policy and service development – We work with organisations to develop strategies, policies and practice in trauma management and mitigation of psychosocial risks, including trauma and vicarious trauma, in the workplace.
Education and workforce development – We provide training for individuals, managers, clinicians and organisations, face-to-face and online, in trauma awareness, psychological first aid, trauma informed care/practice, vicarious trauma.
Clinical services – we provide high quality, evidence-based clinical services to people with posttraumatic mental health problems arising from trauma exposure at work.
