Finance is committed to providing staff with learning and development opportunities through a selection of on-the-job programs and courses designed to meet their professional needs.
Learning and development opportunities support staff within the department to deliver on the Corporate Plan, and is an integral part of one of our key values – develop self, develop others.
Our Emerging Leaders @ Finance network recently held an SES Speed Mentoring session – a unique opportunity for staff to connect with SES leaders from across the department and benefit from their insights into career development, leadership, and personal growth.
With 103 mentees and 31 SES mentors participating, the session featured a series of short, timed mentoring rounds, allowing mentees to rotate through multiple mentors and gain a broad spectrum of advice and perspectives in a single session.
Conversations covered a wide range of topics—from navigating career pathways in the APS, to developing leadership capabilities, managing change, and building confidence in the workplace.
“I was very impressed by the engagement of the SES mentors. Their openness, insights, and willingness to reconnect beyond the event were genuinely appreciated. Importantly, the informal and welcoming setting created a valuable space for those who may not usually feel confident networking, or do not have the opportunity to engage directly with SES (especially SES from other areas of Finance).” – Mentee

Our employee-led diversity networks, such as Emerging Leaders @ Finance, continue to drive awareness of diversity-related matters and provide a safe, open forum for everyone to share their views and experiences.
