On 11 December 2025, the Department of Finance came together with leaders and colleagues from across the Australian Public Service (APS) to celebrate excellence in risk management.
The annual Commonwealth Awards for Excellence in Risk Management celebrate Commonwealth entities for their outstanding and established risk management practices. These awards highlight the importance of strong leadership, innovation and a commitment to building a risk-aware culture.
By sharing best practices and lessons learned, entities are encouraged to adopt the winning practices to help strengthen risk maturity across the APS.

- Winner: Australian Taxation Office
- Highly Commended: Australian Communications and Media Authority
- Honourable Mention: Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
Risk Initiative category
- Winner: Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency
- Honourable Mention: Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water
- Honourable Mention: Department of Home Affairs – Immigration group.
These organisations set a high standard and demonstrate how better results and strong public trust can be achieved through efficient resource allocation, proactive risk mitigation, and collaboration.
