Chapter 11: External Scrutiny

External Scrutiny

The Department of Finance and Administration (Finance) is subject to ongoing external scrutiny from many sources. In 2005-06 various parliamentary committees including the Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audit (JCPAA), the Senate Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee, the Senate Economics Legislation Committee, the Joint Standing Committee on Public Works (PWC), the Joint Standing Committee for the National Capital and External Territories (JSCNET) and the Joint Committee on Publications (JCP) each conducted one or more inquiries which either examined or were relevant to Finance's activities. The Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) and the Commonwealth Ombudsman also reviewed aspects of the department's operations. In addition, Finance was involved in two significant legal actions during the year. This chapter focuses on the reviews, inquiries, audits and legal actions where Finance's involvement was substantial.
