Chapter 1: Secretary’s Review

The 2005-06 year was a busy and rewarding one for the Department of Finance and Administration (Finance). We provided advice on a broad range of government policy decisions, implemented a number of policy and programme decisions and managed a large number of programmes. Reflecting the diverse nature of our portfolio responsibilities and our role as a central agency, the department also faced new challenges and assumed additional responsibilities as we continued to help the government develop and deliver its agenda for the benefit of all Australians. Some highlights of Finance’s key achievements, and the wide variety of initiatives to which we contributed during the year, are set out below.
