Chapter 9: External Scrutiny

The Department of Finance and Administration's (Finance) operations continued to be subject to external scrutiny from a variety of sources during 2003–04. Due to its role as a central agency and the breadth of its business operations, aspects of the department's activities were analysed in a number of reports issued by parliamentary committees and the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) and recommendations for change were directed to it. Finance also gave evidence before a number of parliamentary inquiries. This chapter focuses on those reviews and inquiries that centred on Finance and excludes those where Finance's involvement was marginal.
