For the past four years, the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) has managed the APS ICT Entry Level Programs, recruiting ICT apprentices and cadets into a number of Australian Government agencies. Last night I had the pleasure of attending the APS ICT Entry Level Programs Graduation Ceremony. It was a wonderful celebration of the achievements of 35 apprentices and cadets from 12 Government agencies who have now completed their academic qualifications while concurrently working in the APS.

20 apprentices and 15 cadets were presented with their graduation certificates in front of family members as well as representatives from their agencies and organisations that support the programs’ implementation. The apprentices were recruited in 2009 and have all attained a Certificate IV in Information Technology. The cadets began in 2009 and 15 members of the first cohort graduated last night, having gained their ICT degree or completed their ICT major within their degree from university. The ICT Entry Level Programs are a key pathway for people with interests in an ICT career to join the APS. They provide an opportunity to gain ICT skills and qualifications while working in the APS. I am really pleased to be a part of this Program and look forward to following the careers of the graduated participants. I hope they have long and successful careers in the APS. Update: here are some photos from the event.
