Parliamentarians' Entitlements
On 8 September 2009, the Special Minister of State announced that the Government would … as soon as practical, develop a complete reporting regime for all Department of Finance and Deregulation expenditure on entitlements for or connected with senators and members or former parliamentarians.
From the July to December 2009 reporting period, reports on Parliamentarians’ entitlements include expenditure on the following entitlements for Senators, Members and certain former Parliamentarians:
- office administrative costs, including:
- office consumables and services;
- printing and communications;
- publications;
- office facilities costs;
- travel allowances and travel expenses for both domestic and overseas travel, including family travel costs, and
- overseas study travel reports from Senators and Members.
The Department of Finance and Deregulation (Finance) has prepared the reports listed below on entitlements provided to Parliamentarians, former Parliamentarians and widows of former Parliamentarians in accordance with the relevant legislation.
- Parliamentarians’ Expenditure on Entitlements paid by the Department of Finance and Deregulation
Includes expenditure, and adjustments, of entitlements (including domestic travel, car costs, overseas travel, Travelling Allowance, office facilities costs, office administrative costs and family travel) for Parliamentarians during the relevant six-month period. It also includes car transport costs as advised by other Departments in respect of Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and Presiding Officers.
- Former Parliamentarians’ Expenditure on Entitlements paid by the Department of Finance and Deregulation
Includes expenditure, and adjustments, of travel costs and, where applicable, family travel costs and costs of office facilities and office administration for all eligible former Parliamentarians and Widows during the relevant six-month period.
- Parliamentarians’ Overseas Study Travel Reports
Includes overseas study travel reports, submitted by Parliamentarians, for travel undertaken during the relevant six-month period.
These reports are compiled by Finance, tabled in Parliament biannually, and are available on the Finance website shortly after the documents have been tabled in Parliament.
The supporting data underpinning the reports is also now available via the Finance website for all categories within the reports except for office facilities.July to December 2009
