Unfair Dismissal

Employees engaged under the MOP(S) Act are subject to the unfair dismissal provisions of the Workplace Relations Act 1996. The legislation also contains provisions relating to unlawful dismissals.

During the period 1 July 2007 - 30 June 2008, the total expenditure on legal costs associated with termination of employment and unfair dismissal claims was $105,455. There were no financial settlements made in relation to unfair dismissal during 2007-2008.

In 2007-2008, four former employees sought to have the termination of their employment reviewed under the provisions of the Workplace Relations Act 1996. Three of these cases concluded at or before conciliation.
