  1. [1] Staffing allocations are the number of positions allocated by the Prime Minister under the MOP(S) Act. At any given time the actual number of MOP(S) Act employees may differ from the number of staffing allocations if, for example, not all positions are filled or one position is filled by two or more part–time employees. Tables 1 to 17 represent staffing numbers as at 30 June 2007 and 30 June 2008, which will differ from the position allocations in the above chart.
  2. [2] On 17 October 2007 the Australian Parliament was dissolved by the Governor–General. The total staffing allocation on this day was 1530.9.
  3. [3] Staffing allocations for 1 December 2007 are unavailable due to the transition of Government which occurred following the Federal election, held on the 24 November 2007.
  4. [4] On 24 November 2007 the Federal Election was held, resulting in a change of government. The decline in Government Personal Employee Positions is due to a commitment made by the Government to reduce Ministerial staff by 30 per cent.
