Future COAG Regulatory Reform Agenda - Stakeholder Consultation
Under the Council of Australian Government’s (COAG) National Partnership Agreement to Deliver a Seamless National Economy (SNE NP), Governments are working together to remove inefficient and costly regulation through the implementation of 27 deregulation priorities, eight areas of competition reform and improvements to regulatory processes.
In line with its long term commitment to boost productivity and the competitiveness of the Australian economy, COAG agreed in February 2011 to develop options for a further wave of regulatory and competition reforms.
During October 2011, representatives from business and the not-for profit sectors were consulted to identify reform options for COAG’s consideration. This consultation process included stakeholder forums in Perth (11 October); Sydney (12 October), Melbourne (13 October), Brisbane (13 October) and Adelaide (14 October). Telepresence meetings were also held with stakeholders in Tasmania (24 October) and the Northern Territory (27 October 2011).

Consultation Paper
COAG’s Business Regulation and Competition Working Group (BRCWG) developed a stakeholder consultation paper on future regulatory reform themes to frame the consultation process. This paper draws upon initial ideas identified by the BRCWG and consultations with key industry and community groups in March 2011. The reform themes and options in the paper have not received Commonwealth or state and territory government approval.
