Welcome
to the Department of Finance and Administration's online Annual Report for 2000–01. Last
financial year, Finance continued to provide advice and services across a very
diverse range of issues. We provided whole-of-government advice on finance
and Budget matters including the successful delivery of the third accrual budget.
We also managed a number of important Government operations, such as the
Commonwealth non-defence property portfolio and the whole-of-government insurance
business. Internationally, Finance was involved in work in a number of countries
in our region. We had a team of people in East Timor to advise upon, and
help manage, the introduction of the first East Timorese budget, an achievement
for which we have received national and international commendation. We also
managed the project for the first summer survey to define the limits of the continental
shelf off the Australian Antarctic Territory. Our staff are our most important
asset, and a key issue for Finance is the provision of a supportive and flexible
working environment. During the year we undertook a number of initiatives
to this end, including the establishment of a Finance Scholarship, a Future Leaders
Programme and an Alumni Network. I would like to thank the staff for their
contribution to another successful year. Thank you for your time and I invite
