Indicative Site Activity – September 2011

As part of undertaking the study into the feasibility of using the Moorebank site for an intermodal terminal, a number of technical site investigations are being conducted. These will enable important data to be collected towards environmental assessment of the site. An indicative schedule of completed and proposed activities is listed below.

Indicative Site Activity Schedule
(schedule may change without notice and will be updated as required)

Upcoming Activities

Timeframe

Installation of a meteorological station within the site boundaries.  This will record the meteorological conditions at the site for a period of approximately 12 months in order to establish a “baseline” of data for the site. Approximately Sept/Oct 2011 until approximately Sept/Oct 2012.
Installation of air quality monitoring equipment and noise level monitoring equipment in the local communities of Casula, Wattle Grove and N. Glenfield.  These monitoring stations will be active for a period of approximately 12 months in order to establish a “baseline” of data for the communities where the instruments are located.  This data, in conjunction with that from the established government provided monitoring stations, will be used to support future assessments of air quality and noise impacts of the proposed project. Approximately Sept/Oct 2011 until approximately Sept/Oct 2012.
Site investigation of the SME land on the west bank of the Georges River – intent is to conduct Aboriginal heritage, ecology and CLM investigations of this heavily vegetated site.  Investigations will be primarily ‘walk-thru’ and desk-top studies. To be considered at a later date.
Ambient noise monitoring – the recording of background noise levels (ambient noise levels) in the local communities of Casula, Wattle Grove and N. Glenfield.  Note that the instruments only record the “level” of ambient noise, or general background noise, and not actual sounds such as conversations. Completed.
Geotech Site Investigations – Services Location by using detectors and marking the ground where buried services are detected.  Minor “pot holing” to also be preformed to verify locations. Completed.
Geotech Site Investigations – soil testing using small truck with “drilling rig” on back, pushes instrumented rod down to solid rock. Completed.
Geotech Site Investigations – Conduct of drilling bore holes to obtain soil samples as depth.  Number and locations to be determined based on results of the previous testing.  Larger truck with drill rig, drills down and obtains core samples of the soils, which are brought back to the surface and carefully placed in containers for lab analysis. Completed.
Topographical and cadastral surveys – determine ground elevation levels and establish site’s boundaries. Completed.
Commonwealth Land east of southern end of IMT site – this is the proposed location for a grade separation road access to the site.  Need to conduct Aboriginal, ecology, geo-technical site investigations (high level) at this area. No longer required due to revised concept.
