The Telecommunications Team within the Department of Finance and Deregulation (Finance) negotiates with service providers on behalf of the Australian Government. We also work with state and local governments to enable efficiencies developed for one area of government to be shared across other government jurisdictions. The following services are made available to all federal government agencies.

1. Going to Market

2. Designing and implementing a Request for Tender

3. Selecting a service provider

4. Negotiating a contract

Coordinated Government Responses to Industry and Industry Associations

Finance works with a number of industry associations to improve understanding between carriers and customers. This involvement helps to ensure the Australian Government's expectations, as a major customer for telecommunications, are met.

As a major customer of telecommunications carriers, Finance regularly provides input to the ACMA [External Site] and ACCC [External Site] on telecommunications issues. Finance is a member of ATUG [External Site], and is an active participant in industry forums.
