RIS Certification
The OBPR is required to assess the adequacy of a Regulation Impact Statement (RIS) before it is provided to a decision maker (see Assessment of adequacy by the OBPR in chapter 2 of the Best Practice Regulation Handbook for more information).
Where a RIS is being prepared for an Australian Government decision maker, for example the Cabinet, the Prime Minister, a portfolio minister, a board or an agency head, the RIS must be certified by the relevant departmental secretary or deputy secretary (or agency head/deputy head) prior to being passed to the OBPR for final assessment.
You will need to provide evidence to the OBPR that your RIS has been certified by the relevant officer. A template form for this purpose is provided below.
