Best Practice Regulation Handbook
Appendix B. Annual regulatory plans
Agencies responsible for regulatory changes that may have a significant impact on business are required to prepare and publish an Annual Regulatory Plan in July each year. These plans provide business and the community with information about planned changes to Australian Government regulation, and make it easier for business to take part in the development of regulation that is likely to affect them.
These plans contain information about proposed regulatory activity, including a description of the issue, information about the consultation strategy and an expected timetable. (Guidelines for agencies on preparing and publishing regulatory plans are available at www.finance.gov.au/obpr). Contact the OBPR if you require assistance in preparing or updating your agency’s plan.
Annual Regulatory Plans are published on the website of each agency and the OBPR will also publish the plans on its website. The plans are also linked to the business consultation website which aims to make consultation more effective.
It is up to individual agencies to manage the coordination and publication of Annual Regulatory Plans within their portfolio.
