Fleet Leasing Arrangements
The Fleet Monitoring Body (FMB) is a business unit within the Department of Finance and Deregulation. The FMB is responsible for administering the contracts for the provision of motor vehicle fleet management and leasing services to Australian Government departments and agencies. LeasePlan Australia Ltd (LeasePlan) is the fleet manager under this arrangement.
All organisations operating under the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997, including the Department of Defence are obliged to source their vehicle leasing and fleet management services under the contractual arrangements administered by the FMB.
Agencies operating under the Commonwealth Authorities and Companies Act 1997 (CAC Act) can decide to 'opt in' and take advantage of the benefits associated with the contract. Interested CAC Act Agencies should contact the FMB for further information.
Use of Ethanol Blended Fuels (E10) in the Government Vehicle Fleet
On 22 September 2005, in response to the Biofuels Taskforce report, the then Prime Minister announced a range of measures to promote the biofuels/ethanol industry in Australia including that 'the Government will demonstrate its confidence in ethanol blended fuel by encouraging users of Commonwealth vehicles to purchase E10 where possible.' The Department of Finance and Deregulation has been tasked with implementing the fleet-related recommendation.
