Strategic Advice on e-Government
The Department of Finance and Deregulation, through the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO), provides high-level strategic advice on the technology-enabled transformation of government services and administration for the Australian Government.
AGIMO communicates e-government strategies to external stakeholders and disseminates information and knowledge sharing to Australian Public Service (APS) staff to assist ICT practitioners.

Draft 2011 ICT Strategic Vision
On 13 April 2011, the Secretary of the Department of Finance and Deregulation, David Tune, in his role as Chair of the
Secretaries’ ICT Governance Board released the draft 2011 ICT Strategic Vision [
] via the AGIMO Blog.
The draft Vision outlines a long term plan for the government’s use of information and communication technology to support increased public sector productivity. It does this by describing how the public sector can use ICT to deliver better government services, engage openly with stakeholders and improve government operations. The Vision explains the actions and activities to support each of these priorities.
Cloud Computing
The Australian Government Cloud Computing Strategy Direction Paper, developed by the Department of Finance and Deregulation, informs Australian Government agencies of the opportunities and impacts of cloud computing.
ICT Reform Program
The ICT Reform Program is implementing the Government's directions regarding the recommendations of the Review of the Australian Government's use of Information and Communication Technology by Sir Peter Gershon. The review examined and reported on the effectiveness and efficiency of the Australian Government’s use of information and communication technology (ICT).
Whole-of-Government ICT Policies
To strengthen the whole-of-government management of ICT and to drive greater efficiency and deliver better services to citizens and business, whole-of-government ICT Policies have been approved by the Secretaries ICT Governance Board.
2006 e-Government Strategy
The 2006 e-Government Strategy, Responsive Government: A New Service Agenda, charts how the government is building on the momentum and achievements in e-government to date, and moving towards the vision of a connected and responsive government by 2010.
ICT Governance Committees
The Secretaries’ ICT Governance Board (SIGB) will drive the ministerial agenda on whole-of-government information and communication technology. The SIGB’s agenda is informed and supported by the Business Process Transformation Committee (BPTC) and the Chief Information Officer Committee (CIOC).

Australian Government Architecture
The Australian Government Architecture (AGA) aims to assist in the delivery of more consistent and cohesive service to citizens and support the more cost-effective delivery of ICT services by government. The AGA Reference Models form the basis of a common language between agencies and structure a repository of architectural artefacts (including standards, guidelines, designs and solutions) that may be utilised by agencies to deliver an increasing range of Whole of Government services.
ICT Skills
AGIMO is researching and developing ICT skills programs to improve the attraction, recruitment and retention rates of ICT professional employees within the Australian Public Service.
Environmental Sustainability of ICT
Environmental Sustainability of ICT initiatives developed by Finance, in consultation with the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA), aim to support the Government’s environmental sustainability agenda.
Gov 2.0
Government 2.0 is about the use of technology to encourage a more open and transparent form of government, where the public has a greater role in forming policy and has improved access to government information.
