Australian Government Publishing Information
Web Guide
The Web Guide [
] brings together Australian Government resources for website management. It makes it easy for Australian Government agencies to:
- Discern their legal and policy obligations
- Access policies, guidance and examples of better practice.
For each topic, the guide directs you to resources provided by the responsible Australian Government agency (or other organisation).
Publication Guidelines
Guidance on Australian Government publication processes is available in the Publication Guidelines. These guidelines assist Australian Government agencies to meet their publishing obligations.
Publications Register
A range of resources on Australian Government publications can be found at the Publications Register [
]. Through this website you can also search for information about new distribution arrangements for many of the Australian Government publications that were sold through the Bookshop Network immediately prior to its closure.
Library Deposit Scheme
Under the Commonwealth Library Deposit Scheme and Free Issue Schemes (LDS), Australian Government departments and agencies are required to provide copies of publications that they publish to participating deposit libraries.
For more information, contact the LDS Administrator
Australian Government Bookshop Network
The Australian Government Bookshop Network (also known as the Info Access Network) ceased operations on 17 October 2003. The decision was announced in the 2003/04 Budget.
Style manual for authors, editors and printers
Sixth edition 2002
The Style manual for authors, editors and printers provides guidance and recommendations for anyone faced with the task of preparing material for publication in either print or electronic format.
The sixth edition is a substantial revision-in response to the extensive changes in the publishing industry since the previous edition of 1994. It emphasises the importance of focusing on the audience's need when planning, structuring, writing, designing and editing a publication; and reflects a more multicultural and global outlook that recognises the influence of the Internet on publishing.
Australian Style
Australian Style [
] is a biannual newsletter published by members of the Linguistics Department, Macquarie University [
] and supported by the Faculty of Human Sciences [
] .
From 1992 - 2007, Australian Style was produced by Macquarie University with the Australian Government providing some funding and arranging printing and circulation. The Australian Government no longer participates in the provision of Australian Style and Macquarie University has taken over the publishing role completely.
Australian Style covers issues in Australian Style and the use of English in Australia, and invites feedback from the Australian public on topical points of usage and communication. The lead articles from Australian Style since 2003 are available in the Australian Style Archive [
].
