Australian Government Publication Guidelines

This guide is to assist Australian Government agencies meet their obligations for government publications - to produce high quality electronic and printed publications that meet the needs of the intended audience, are discoverable by interested parties, and meet legislative and policy requirements.

A wide range of policies, principles, guidelines, tools, better practice advice and other reference material relating to the online and print environments exist; this guide focuses primarily on mandated government requirements specific to publications.

Agencies should be aware that they have other broader obligations (eg financial management, security, privacy, procurement etc) that may be applicable to publication processes but which are not specific to publications. Also, this guide is intended to supplement any agency specific guidelines relating to publications, not replace them.

For each topic, this guide directs you to information provided by the responsible Australian Government agency (or other organisation). Only a brief summary of each guideline is provided, including information about whether adherence is mandatory for Australian Government agencies.
