Applications Development
Fisheries Victoria, Department of Primary Industries - Integrated Catch and Effort
In 2011 Fisheries Victoria embarked on a massive overhaul of its 25-year-old wild catch fisheries and aquaculture production data collection system. The result is the new Integrated Catch and Effort (ICE) system. ICE provides more automated, structured and robust data and reporting processes. This system also enables secure access for other internal and external authorised users: for the first time, officers, managers, commercial fishers and a wide range of other stakeholders can have real-time access to a shared view of catch and aquaculture data, while still maintaining the security of their personal and confidential information.
Housing SA, Department for Communities and Social Inclusion - Homeless2Home
Homeless2Home (H2H) has been developed by Housing South Australia’s Homelessness Strategy division to better connect and coordinate services for homeless people and people at risk of homelessness. H2H is a centralised online client and case management system that, with consent, enables client data to be shared between the state’s specialist agencies. The system offers a common assessment process making it easier for homeless people to engage with the services they need and the over 100 non-government organisations to access the most up-to-date information available on their clients. By making it easier for data to be shared it means clients only need to tell their story once and agencies can better tailor programs to provide the support and services their clients most need.
Queensland Health - The Viewer
The Viewer project has changed the way clinicians can access patient information to improve the entire journey of care for Queensland Health patients. Prior to The Viewer’s implementation, patient data was stored in a range of paper and electronic record systems in over 260 different facilities. The Viewer has consolidated this patient information into a single system, thereby decreasing the time it takes for clinicians to locate essential information, increasing reliability of access to information from source systems, and supporting improved decision making. By leveraging existing Queensland Health technology and extensive testing, the system is very easy to learn and is already available to all Queensland Health facilities, including hospitals, outpatient centres, community centres and primary care centres. The Viewer has proved so successful that Queensland Health has been in discussion with other states to share the project’s design principles.
Geospatial
Bureau of Meteorology - Australian Hydrological Geospatial Fabric
The Bureau of Meteorology’s Australian Hydrological Geospatial Fabric (Geofabric) is a key product in the Australian Government Water for the Future investment in Australia’s long‑term water security. The Geofabric offers the most comprehensive and consistent view of water features in Australia, identifying the spatial location and relationships between streams, waterbodies, catchments and aquifers within a geospatial framework. The Geofabric underpins all other point and report based information for water accounting, water resource assessment and flood warning and forecasting. Since its launch, the Geofabric has been adopted by a wide range of government water agencies, industry, research and education stakeholders for a variety of applications.
Bureau of Meteorology - Next Generation Forecast and Warning System Project
Through the Next Generation Forecast and Warning System (NexGenFWS) Project the Bureau of Meteorology is transitioning from traditional text-based based forecasts limited to a number of locations to a fully digital geospatial environment in which users can access more accurate, more detailed and, most importantly, geospatially aware forecasts and warnings. NexGenFWS is now successfully operating in four states and has introduced a greatly expanded service that provides citizens in rural and regional areas with a level of information formerly only available about metropolitan cities. The technology underpinning NexGenFWS has revolutionised the preparation of forecasts to allow the Bureau to establish a digital geospatial database of forecast information which covers the continent, providing a level of detail and accuracy never before achieved in Australia.City of Melbourne, Victoria - City of Melbourne on-line mapping
Through its on-line mapping services the City of Melbourne is making a difference to the thousands of people who live, work in and visit the city every day. The agency has created an easy-to-use and accessible on-line service that will help people plan their activities and find the services they might need. Stunning new cartography paints a visual story of the city and new symbology has been used to more clearly convey information to visitors. The City of Melbourne’s on-line mapping service has unlocked a vast amount of information for the first time, empowering people to make decisions and to access the City’s services and items of interest at a time that suits them.
Government 2.0
City of Bayswater, Western Australia - Interactive City Maps
The City of Bayswater in the north-east of Perth has demonstrated its commitment to keeping community members informed of its services, programs and initiatives through its extensive development of the Interactive City Maps initiative. In 2010, the City partnered with a location intelligence specialist to transform its Geographic Information System Capability. This partnership has led to an accessible online mapping environment delivering accurate geospatial information to the public, as well as a comprehensive range of information databases and search functions, all facilitated through a single easy-to-use web interface.
Country Fire Authority, Victoria in collaboration with other Victorian fire and flood services - Social Media Emergency Management Integration
The Country Fire Authority (CFA) has made significant advances in its use of social media for emergency warning and provision of advice during major incidents. All CFA social media channels have being integrated into a ‘One Source, One Message’ system so warnings are now posted automatically 24/7 to official social media channels as soon as they are issued. As part of this initiative CFA now works directly with specifically appointed staff in the State Control Centre to gather intelligence from the online community during major emergencies. CFA’s work in this area has allowed a much quicker response to communication issues and provided valuable intelligence back into official emergency management structures.Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Queensland - GeoHUB/MyMaps
The GeoHUB/MyMaps project is an initiative to supply tools, services, data and processes to allow council business areas and the local community to easily access, share and use council information. The council has developed a framework and toolset that maximise the value of adding a spatial context to information. GeoWEB provides the framework and is the foundation of the council’s spatial information offerings with over 1,000 layers of accessible data. This framework underpins two tools used by council staff and the public. GeoHUB, the council’s staff mapping tool, allows users to analyse, customise and save spatial and business data within a single environment. MyMaps, the public mapping tool, enables the public to discover a diverse range of council information about their local areas, such as property and underground services and flood maps, through an accessible mapping interface. Through these two tools the council is making it easier for businesses and the local community to benefit from Council information.
Project and Program Management
Department of Veterans’ Affairs - DVA/DHS Shared Services
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA)/Department of Human Services (DHS) Shared Services improves the way DVA delivers back office ICT services giving DVA better ICT capability and value for money. The Program has enabled the DVA to leverage the DHS’s investment in ICT infrastructure to significantly reduce its business as usual ICT costs. As this arrangement has been carefully planned to work around the systems and processes that deliver pensions and treatment services, the DVA has successfully increased its ICT capability and value for money without affecting the way veterans access services.
Information Management & Technology, CSIRO - Research Data Service
The CSIRO Research Data Service (RDS) is a ground-breaking program designed to establish capabilities to facilitate the capture, description, access and retrieval of CSIRO’s research data assets. The RDS program has successfully brought together national and international stakeholders, and supported the data management requirements of the enterprise while simultaneously meeting the data-related needs of the wide range of specific CSIRO research domains. Data provided through the RDS is now being accessed by researchers worldwide. Since its initial release in 2011, there have been thousands of searches and downloads of data that will lead to new and unexpected discoveries being made. For CSIRO scientists RDS provides an important means of protecting, disseminating and preserving our scientific results for the future.New South Wales Police Force - Project eyewatch
Project eyewatch is a NSW Police Force strategy to reinvigorate community engagement and openness in policing through the concept of Neighbourhood Watch in the 21st century. The project draws on the wealth of knowledge that community groups have about their environs, and enables active Neighbourhood Watch Groups to use social networking to participate with their local police in active crime prevention. Project eyewatch is the natural extension of the way police work, in involving the public both individually and through groups; eyewatch enhances this work by drawing on social networks to allow a greater flow of information.
