During the natural disasters that Queensland faced in late 2010 and early 2011 Executive Director Kym Charlton demonstrated exceptional leadership in spearheading the Queensland Police Service’s use of online communications, ensuring a timely and accurate dialogue with the public. Her use of social media highlighted the value of such tools in emergency management, as well as their use in engaging the community in providing feedback, experience and expertise.

At a time when many leaders were questioning the value of social media and struggling to come to terms with its business potential, Guy and his team’s vision and leadership saw CFA breaking new ground in web 2.0 communications. CFA had a traditional approach to social media and Guy and his team worked diligently and strategically to educate CFA members about the value of web 2.0 from a business perspective.

Maria Katsonis, Special Adviser, Strategy and Innovation, Department of Premier and Cabinet, Victoria, accepts Government 2.0 Innovator finalist certificate from Senator the Hon. Kate Lundy.

Maria is the Principal Adviser Public Administration in the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet. She has shown superior leadership in the development of the Government 2.0 Action Plan and is the driving force behind the implementation of Action Plan initiatives across the Victorian public sector. Maria has excelled in bringing people across the VPS together and promoting new ideas and approaches to public policy through Government 2.0.
