Whole-of-Government ICT policies for FMA Act agencies
The following outlines whole-of-government ICT policies for all Financial
Management and Accountability Act 1997 [
] (FMA Act) agencies. The policies have been endorsed by the relevant whole-of-government ICT governance processes, including the Secretaries ICT Governance Board. The policies have been developed by the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) in conjunction with relevant Australian Government agencies.

It involves conducting a series of brief, independent reviews at critical stages in the development and implementation of a project. |

It describes the email client requirements, user guidelines and the server behavior rules that must be considered in implementing the new requirements of the Information Security Manual. |
| Guidance* | Security Considerations for the use of Personal Electronic Devices | Security Considerations for the Use of Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs) has been developed to assist Chief Executive Officers and Chief Information Officers in considering the approval, requirements and appropriate use of PEDs in their ICT environment in accordance with government security policy and consistent with a risk managed approach. |

| Mandatory | ICT Two Pass Review Process | The ICT Two Pass Review Process enables a multi stage assessment of ICT proposals – each at increasing levels of detail and accuracy. For agencies, the process contributes to more effective delivery of policy outcomes by providing assurance that delivery options are identified and considered, costs are fully developed prior to requesting funding, and ensuring agencies only develop full business cases for proposals which government has given in-principle approval. |

The Government has decided to change the system of self-approved opt-in by agencies to whole-of-government ICT arrangements. Under the new system agencies must seek approval from the Expenditure Review Committee to opt-out from agreed arrangements. |

The Australian Government Teleworking Policy for ICT staff helps to reform the ICT workforce in the Australian Public Service and ensure agencies attract and retain skilled ICT professionals. |
| Guidance | Performance Indicator Catalogue | AGIMO has developed a Performance Indicator Catalogue with indicators suitable for measuring performance across the whole project lifecycle, from planning to implementation to realising benefits. |

| Mandatory | Australian Government Data Centre Strategy 2010-2025 | The Government has endorsed the Data Centre Strategy as the whole-of-government approach to future data centre requirements. The primary objective of the Data Centre Strategy is to develop an ICT investment approach to avoid $1 billion in data centre costs over 10 to 15 years. |
| Mandatory | Strategy for the Transition to IPv6 for Australian Government agencies | The Australian Government has developed a Strategy for the Transition to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) for Australian Government agencies to assist government agencies in transitioning from IPv4 to IPv6. The benefits of IPv6 include increased end-to-end security of systems and automated address allocation for internet connected devices. |

The Intellectual Property Principles for Australian Government Agencies (‘the Statement of IP Principles’) provides a policy for the management of IP by Australian Government agencies covered by the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997. Agencies are individually responsible for implementing the Statement of IP Principles. |
| Mandatory | Australian Government Open Source Software Policy | The revised Australian Government Open Source Software Policy was released on 27 January 2011 and applies to any ICT procurement activity commenced after 1 March 2011. It requires agencies to consider open source software when undertaking software procurements. |

The Engagement of an Individual Business Process Patterns (the Patterns) outlines the business process patterns agencies must use when they engage with an individual for a service or obligation. The Patterns provide a common language across agencies to support the development of whole-of-government service delivery capabilities. |
