What will I do for Finance?
You will be recruited as a permanent member of staff, with a qualifying probationary period, commencing at the APS1 level earning $37,400 per annum.
You will be working with modern office technology and equipment. You will receive paid annual leave of up to four weeks per year, as well as paid personal (sick) leave.
If you wish to undertake further studies there are a range of opportunities in place to support you. You can become involved in a large network of social and sporting activities. You will work as part of a dedicated and professional team doing interesting and challenging work.
How much will I earn?
You will be earning $37,400 per year, which is the starting salary for an APS1 level officer in the Department of Finance and Deregulation (Finance). Finance reviews and updates its salaries on 1 July each year to ensure that they remain competitive and a performance bonus may be paid at the end of the financial year, depending on your performance. Finance also pays generous superannuation contributions on your behalf.
What would I be doing?
You will work as part of a team in one of the seven Business Groups of Finance. This work may involve a variety of projects in diverse areas including:
- project management;
- policy development;
- procurement;
- asset sales and management;
- budget analysis and advice;
- corporate services;
- stakeholder management;
- legal services and legislative advice;
- ministerial and parliamentary services;
- whole-of-Government Information Technology (IT); and
- financial reporting.
What skills and qualities do I need to bring to Finance?
You need to have recently completed (within the last 24 months), or are currently completing your year 12 certificate in 2008 and possess:
- an ability to work well in a team
- good communication skills
- a desire to get the job done
- enthusiasm and integrity
- willingness to learn and
- a sense of humour.
Where would I be working?
You could be working in one of the Canberra offices of the Department located in Parkes, Barton, Parliament House, Fyshwick, Mitchell or Hume.
What hours would I need to work?
It is flexible, but generally speaking 36 hours and 45 minutes per week or 7 hours and 21 minutes per day - Monday to Friday.
Is it a permanent job?
Yes. There is a six month probation period.
What support would be available to assist me in entering the workforce?
Your manager will guide your day-to-day work, answer questions and provide advice. Your manager and team colleagues will train you in your work. A ‘buddy’ and a mentor will also be assigned to you to help you adjust to your new job and working environment.
