Learning and Development
The Finance Graduate Program commences with an intensive orientation that aims to provide graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills to function effectively and efficiently both within the Department and the context of the APS. As a participant you will be provided with additional learning and development opportunities throughout the year, which will be a mix of mandatory and customised formal training programs and in-house information sessions. The structure and content is designed to complement on-the-job training within each of Finance's Business Groups. The program also includes a Mentor Program where graduates can elect to have a mentor to guide their learning and career progression.
An optional Graduate Second Year Program is also available for graduates who have completed the Graduate Development Program. This is a great opportunity to further enhance the skills and attributes of graduates and prepare them for future leadership roles within the Department.
The Graduate Second Year Program is made up of three components:
- Core Components - participants attend a tailored leadership program and have two career coaching sessions.
- Technical Skills Development - participants undertake a Diploma of Government or Certificate IV or another course by negotiation with their managers.
- Professional Skills Development - participants attend two single-day courses offered through the Professional Skills Training Calendar or another course by negotiation with their managers.
An optional Graduate Third Year Program is available for past graduates wanting to complete a formal qualification in management through Finance's Postgraduate Study Program. This allows Finance's graduates to start postgraduate study with only two years work experience, rather than needing to have the normal university entrance requirements for postgraduate studies.
