Role of a Finance Graduate

The Department of Finance and Deregulation (Finance) Graduate Program (the Program) offers a diverse and comprehensive introduction into the Australian Public Service (APS) with 11 months of training and development activities. The Program is developed to provide our new graduates with the skills and knowledge to become Finance employees and to underpin their future careers within Finance and the APS. As a Finance graduate you have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects in diverse areas including:

• project management;
• policy development;
• procurement;
• asset sales and management;
• budget analysis and advice;
• corporate services;
• stakeholder management;
• legal services and legislative advice;
• ministerial and parliamentary services;
• whole-of-Government Information Technology (IT); and
• financial reporting.

Disciplines

We are looking for graduates from all disciplines, including but not limited to:

• Arts;
• Accounting;
• Finance;
• Business;
• Marketing;
• Communications;
• Commerce;
• Economics;
• Industrial/Employment Relations;
• International Relations;
• Law;
• Political Science;
• Public Administration and Policy;
• Information Communication Technology;
• Property/Construction; and
• Project Management.

Eligibility Requirements/Citizenship

To be eligible for a graduate position within Finance, you must:

• have completed an undergraduate degree with a credit average grade within the last five years;
• be an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident with a written confirmation from the Australian Government that you will be an Australian citizen by the start of the Program;
• obtain a security clearance of the minimum level ‘protected' depending on the requirements of the Business Group; and
• be prepared to relocate to Canberra.

Remuneration Package as a Finance Graduate

All Finance graduates will commence as an APS 3 officer and subsequently be eligible for advancement through a merit selection process to the APS 4/APS 5 level on 1 October in their graduate year. The base salary for a Finance graduate is set at the second pay point of the APS 3 salary range of Finance's remuneration framework found at http://www.finance.gov.au/working_in_finance/index.html.

Finance graduate positions are on a full time basis. As a graduate you can expect to receive a total potential remuneration package of $50,300, plus superannuation and a potential performance bonus, four weeks annual leave, flexible leave provisions and an 11 month development program. If you are moving to Canberra from interstate you will be provided with relocation assistance.

Key Dates

Applications for the 2010 program have now closed and the Recruitment Team is currently processing applications.

Applications for the 2011 program will open in March 2010.
