Information for Applicants

Your interest in the Department of Finance and Deregulation (Finance) is appreciated and, if you are successful, you will find that working here will provide variety, challenge and satisfaction.

Finance plays an important role as a central agency within the Australian Government.

Please read the following information before submitting an application. This will help ensure that your application contains all relevant information and that you fully understand the way Finance considers applications.

Thinking about Working with Finance

Before deciding whether to apply for a job with Finance, study the selection documentation and speak to the contact officer (The contact officer's telephone number is included in all advertisements).

Eligibility to Apply

All vacancies notified in the Public Service APSJobs are open to all Australian citizens unless specifically identified as open only to employees of the Australian Public Service (indicated by a clover leaf symbol before the vacancy). Please note, some vacancies may have mandatory qualifications or specific eligibility requirements.

Preparing Your Application

Your application should be brief and address the selection criteria. A selection decision may be based solely on your written application and referee reports, and it is the quality, rather than the quantity that is the most critical factor.

You are encouraged to:

Job Application Coversheet

A Job Application Sheet should only be supplied if you are not able to submit your application through the on-line system.

Applications that are not submitted through the on-line system and do not have a completed Application Cover Sheet will not be considered.

Lodging your Application

Finance uses an online e-recruitment system for lodgement of job applications and it is Finances preference is to receive all applications on-line.

Applications should be sent through the e-recruitment system as directed, by the nominated closing date.

If you are unable to submit your application via the on-line e-recruitment system, please contact the Recruitment Team on 6215 1717 or email jobs@finance.gov.au.

Methods for Selection

The selection method used will vary depending on the circumstances. Interviews are not held in all cases. Selection may be based entirely on applications and referee reports.

Referee Reports

If you are asked to supply written referee reports, either at the time of applying or at a later stage in the selection process, you will need to provide your referee with the Referee Report Process Kit which they should use to rate you against each selection criterion. Only provide written referee reports when requested to do so.

Workplace Diversity

The Department values diversity and aims to ensure that fair, equitable and non-discriminatory consideration will be given to all applicants.

Assistance with building access, interpreters or other services is available when attending an interview. Should you need assistance, please discuss such requirements with the contact officer prior to attending the interview. Hearing or speech-impaired applicants may wish to use the relay services provided by the Australian Communication Exchange.

Progress of Your Application

The contact officer is able to advise you about the progress of your application.

Security Requirements

It is a condition of your employment with the Department of Finance and Deregulation that you are able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the required level. If you do not have a security clearance at the required level, you will need to go through the security clearance process with the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA).

Finance will sponsor your security clearance and you will be required to complete an online security clearance application and provide certified copies of personal documents directly to AGSVA. The checking required to grant a security clearance cannot begin until both the online application and the hardcopy documents have been received by AGSVA. AGSVA aims to finalise security clearances within their Service Level Agreement (SLA) benchmark timeframes, and is committed to completing them faster if possible, subject to not undermining the standard vetting processes and Protective Security Policy Framework compliance.

AGSVA has recently advised that the approximate processing time for a Baseline (PROTECTED) level security clearance is six weeks minimum from the date the E-pack and all supporting documents are received at the AGSVA National Coordination Centre.
