Locations and Security

Where are Finance buildings located?

Finance occupies several sites in Canberra including the John Gorton and Treasury Buildings in Parkes, Minter Ellison Building and Tourism House in Barton and a facility in Fyshwick. Finance also has limited staffing in other major capital cities around Australia as part of Ministerial and Parliamentary Services through its Entitlements Management Branch and COMCAR.

What car parking is available in Canberra?

All day free parking is available around all Finance sites in Canberra. Competition for spaces increases after 9.00am. Limited two-hour spaces are available.

SES Officers have B-Class labels issued to enable them to park in designated Commonwealth carparks around Finance buildings.

What Security requirements must I meet?

All Finance employees must have, at least, a provisional clearance at the ‘Protected’ level prior to commencement.

Potential employees to Finance are required to complete a security pack and submit it to the Departmental Security Team (DST) for initial vetting at least 5 working days prior to commencement.

Potential employees to Finance, who are transferring from another agency and have a valid security clearance, will need to have this verified prior to their commencement with the Department.

As part of the initial vetting process, all potential employees to Finance will be required to undergo a Police Records Check. The DST will complete this process once the initial security pack has been received.

Commencement of employment (including payment of salary), issue of a photographic security access card, access to Finance tenancies, access to Finance Information Technology systems and classified material cannot be provided until the above process has been completed and, at least, a provisional clearance granted.

Depending on the level of clearance required you might need to have up to a 10-year checkable background; you must also be an Australian citizen. If you are not an Australian citizen you must have received a citizenship waiver and this process must also be completed in conjunction with the above procedures i.e. it needs to be signed off before employment can commence.
