Finance Locations and Facilities

Buildings locations

Finance occupies several sites in Canberra including the John Gorton and Treasury buildings in Parkes and Tourism House in Barton and a facility in Fyshwick. Finance also has limited staffing in other major capital cities around Australia as part of Ministerial and Parliamentary Services and COMCAR.

Coffee shop/Cafeteria

John Gorton and Treasury buildings have on-site cafes. The majority of Finance buildings are in close vicinity of privately run cafes and eateries.

Health and Fitness

Finance has a well equipped gym located in the John Gorton Building (ACT), established to assist staff in the achievement of a healthy lifestyle. Membership is free, subject to a membership application and a pre-exercise questionnaire.

Regular lunchtime classes also run as part of the Health Promotion Program on a user pays basis. These may include group personal training, gym circuit sessions, boxercise, yoga, pilates and Zumba.

There are various sporting activities and competitions which occur during lunchtime such as soccer, on the lawns in front of the John Gorton Building (ACT).

Abacus childcare and education centre is a large on-site daycare centre located on the ground floor of the Treasury Building in the ACT Parliamentary Triangle.

Abacus is operated by Communities@Work, a not-for-profit community based organisation providing a diverse range of community services for people from birth to senior years.  Communities@Work has over 30 years experience in providing quality child care and education in Canberra.

Families where at least one parent is a current employee of Finance are given priority access to any available or upcoming placement vacancies with Abacus.  A waiting list system applies in the event there are no vacancies.  Finance staff using Abacus can nominate to have their childcare fees salary packaged.

Carer’s room and support for breastfeeding

The Carer’s rooms, located in the John Gorton and Treasury buildings, provide a temporary, safe and quiet work place to enable staff to carry out aspects of their normal work while caring for their dependant(s). It is an alternative to taking leave in order to care for a dependant(s) for whom care is temporarily unavailable. Facilities include kitchenette, computer, cot, high chair, change table, television and DVD player.

Finance is an accredited ‘Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace’ [external icon] , and has a private Mother’s room (in the John Gorton Building) to support breastfeeding mothers in their return to work. Carer’s rooms can also be used for this purpose.
