How does Finance’s Graduate program work?
Finance conducts a graduate recruitment process each year. The recruitment round commences in March and concludes in July. The Department may conduct a second round later in the year, dependent on circumstances that would commence in September and conclude in November.
A Graduate is a person who is completing a Bachelor’s degree or higher by the end of the recruitment year, or has graduated within the last five years. Finance graduates are an important component of entry-level staff and are based in Canberra.
The Graduate Development Program is a centralised, mandatory 12-month program designed to give each graduate generic skills and knowledge to become a productive Finance staff member and underpin their future careers within the Department and the Australian Public Service.
All graduates are required to participate in all aspects of the Graduate Development Program.
How does Finance's Career Starters' program work?
The Career Starters’ Program is a targeted recruitment program aimed primarily, though not exclusively, at school leavers. Career Starters are provided with a training calendar aimed at providing them with learning and development opportunities to acquire generic skills and knowledge to become productive Finance staff. The mandatory program underpins Career Starters’ future careers within the Department and the Australian Public Service.
What are the benefits of the Indigenous Cadet program?
The Australian Public Service Commission (APSC) coordinates the National Indigenous Cadetship Program (NICP). The NICP is an Australian Government initiative that improves the professional employment prospects of Indigenous Australians. It links Indigenous tertiary students with employers in a cadetship arrangement involving full-time study and work placements. The NICP aims to generate more employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians.
This program provides Indigenous students with financial assistance during their studies. Once students have successfully completed their studies, cadets will graduate from the National Indigenous Cadetship Program (NICP) and be offered a permanent position within Finance's Graduate Program.
What is Vacation Employment?
Each year, Finance offers short-term employment over the summer holidays to selected university students. These are non-ongoing roles and are at the APS 2 level. They are designed to give candidates the opportunity to experience life in the Public Service, and may lead to pursuing graduate opportunities.
Advertisement for these roles occurs in October of each year.
