Release of Costing Election Commitments Guidelines by the Secretaries to the Department of Finance and Deregulation and the Treasury
The Secretaries to the Department of Finance and Deregulation and the Treasury (the Secretaries) today released the Costing Election Commitments 2010 guidelines.
The Charter of Budget Honesty Act 1998 outlines arrangements under which the Secretaries may be requested to cost Government and Opposition election commitments during the caretaker period for a general election.
The Charter provides that the responsible Secretaries may, jointly, issue written guidelines to be used in the preparation of these costings.
These guidelines will be posted on the Finance and Treasury websites and will be available on the joint website www.electioncostings.gov.au at the beginning of the caretaker period.
