The Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) works across government to maintain Australia's position as a leader in the productive application of information and communications technologies to government administration, information and services.

AGIMO fosters the efficient and effective use of information and communications technology (ICT) by Australian government departments and agencies. It provides advice, tools, information and services to help Australian government departments and agencies use ICT to improve administration and service delivery – often referred to as e-government. AGIMO also works with governments and other bodies at the local, state, national and international levels to develop and maintain Australia's position as a world leader in e-government.

AGIMO is led by a General Manager, also titled the Australian Government Chief Information Officer, Ms Ann Steward.

Branch Manager: Trevor Smallwood

The Capability Building Projects Branch works with agencies and other jurisdictions to leverage their individual ICT investments to deliver whole-of-government value, and build capabilities across the government sector.

The Branch manages projects that promote and support interoperability and sharing of ICT services across the Australian Government and the broader public sector, including the development and implementation of the Australian Government Interoperability frameworks and international and national ICT-related standards. It also supports projects that identify and exploit opportunities for collaboration, integration, sharing and re-use of ICT technology and resources, including hardware, infrastructure, software and documentation. It is developing the Australian Government's Service Oriented Architecture.

The Branch works in partnership with agencies to achieve the benefits of collaborative service delivery, including greater integration of high value services across agencies. Through the National Service Improvement Project it also supports greater integration of services between Commonwealth, state and territory, and local governments.

The Branch also seeks to deliver better value-for-money from Australian Government ICT sourcing and procurement, through developing better practice guidance for agencies, streamlining procurement arrangements (including management of the GITC contracting framework) and managing whole-of-government relationships with key ICT vendors.

The enhanced australia.gov.au [External Site] will provide users of Australian Government services with an optional personalised account so that they can choose to ‘log on' and interact with government from a central point.

AGOSP will be delivered through a budget of $42.4 million over fours years (from July 2007) first major release scheduled for December 2008 and a second major release in December 2010.

Moving to more streamlined and citizen-focussed online service delivery will be an iterative process. The AGOSP program will contribute significantly to Australian e-government development and provide a platform for whole-of-government approaches.
